The Division of Rheumatology offers 4-week block rotations, consisting of outpatient rheumatology clinics and inpatient rheumatology consultation service at one of our two hospital sites (St. Paul’s Hospital and Vancouver General Hospital). There is also a very limited number of rotations out of Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster, which is arranged through UBC Internal Medicine. These rotations are for programs with mandatory rheumatology components, as well as for those interested in further rheumatology exposure. UBC Internal Medicine allocates a number of their residents to our rotations, and other programs and interested residents can arranged them directly through us. Programs with mandatory components have priority, and Internal Medicine residents with a keen interest in the Rheumatology program are next priority.
PROCEDURES
UBC Programs with Mandatory Rheum Requirements
UBC Program Administrators whose residents have mandatory rheum requirements, should contact the Program Assistant, Lourdes Gonzalez Arreola, to check availability, as early as possible before the academic year begins (ideally in April), in order to have access to the most options, as our year can fill up rapidly. Please include in the email your program name, the number of residents, their PGY, and all possible date options, to UBCRheum.Admin@ubc.ca
UBC Residents
Interested UBC residents looking for a rotation with St. Paul’s or VGH Rheumatology, who were unable to receive an elective through UBC otherwise, should contact the Program Assistant, Lourdes Gonzalez Arreola, to check availability. We recommend contacting us as early as possible before the academic year begins (ideally in April or May). Please email details and all possible dates, to UBCRheum.Admin@ubc.ca. Once approval has been obtained from Rheumatology, residents are responsible for all approvals from and paperwork required by their home programs.
Residents from outside of UBC must apply separately for Visiting Electives – please check details here.
