Research

Members of the Division of Rheumatology are actively involved in research. In 2022 and 2023, UBC rheumatologists published 91 peer-reviewed papers and abstracts. In addition to independent research, members of the Division continue to be active at Arthritis Research Canada, the largest clinical arthritis research center in North America. It is internationally recognized for its multidisciplinary scientific team, which conducts innovative research across Canada. This vital work is supported through collaboration and partnerships with universities, hospitals, funding agencies, arthritis treatment centres, and the Government of British Columbia. Arthritis Research Canada’s scientists are finding answers and developing tools to help people overcome the challenges caused by different types of arthritis. This practical research is aimed at preventing arthritis, facilitating early diagnosis, finding new and better treatments, and improving quality of life. There is no cure for arthritis, and millions of Canadians still need to live their lives while managing this chronic disease. They need to work, care for loved ones, stay physically active, maintain their mental health and more. Arthritis research makes this possible.

Arthritis Research Canada is supported by the generosity of individuals, corporations, government, and foundations across Canada.
